Question: is it a Sunnah to spend on your family on Aashura?
Answer:
من وسع على نفسه وأهله يوم عاشوراء وسع الله تعالى عليه سائر سنته". "ابن عبد البر في الاستذكار عن جابر"
Nabi صلي الله عليه وسلم said that whomsoever spends on himself and his family, on the day of Aashura, Allah will grant him vastness in his rizq, for the entire year.(Kanz)
Spend on yourself and family on the 10th of Muharram, by preparing a better than usual meal, within your means.
Exchanging of gifts with family and friends on this day, is NOT part of the Sunnah!
